What is Ganoderma Good For?

The Ganoderma Lucidum, always in the Chinese and Japanese culture is associated with royalty, health, recovery, sexual power and longevity.
Traditional Chinese Medicine considers Reishi one of the highest level remedies from a healing point of view, both for the body and the mind. The Reishi has a miraculous mushroom aura even among the Japanese, where it is called the monkey's seat, due to its rigid and woody structure, this remedy, unlike other medicinal mushrooms, is not considered edible due to its bitter taste and consistency woody and is therefore usually used in folk medicine in the form of herbal tea.
For millennia it has been acclaimed as "divine herb", "Herb of spiritual power", "miraculous mushroom", "mushroom of immortality" or "elixir of long life" and was revered as a heavenly herb with exceptional properties.

Reishi Lucidum

There are many species of Ganoderma Lucidum :

  • Aka-shiba or Ganoderma rosso
  • Kuro-shiba or black Ganoderma
  • Ao-shiba or Ganoderma blue
  • Shiro-shiba or white Ganoderma
  • Ki-shiba or Ganoderma yellow
  • Murasaki-shiba or Ganoderma viola

The one that is most often cultivated and used is the Akashiba or the red Reishi in that through studies carried out on this fungus it was found that it is a precious "nutriceutical" but also a starting point for obtaining drugs.
In addition to the action on the physical, he was also given an action from the psycho-emotional point of view: it is said to "calm the mind" and for this reason it is prescribed successfully in cases of anxiety, nervousness, insomnia. Reishi acts very deeply on the nervous system, to the point that many believe that it favors meditation.
Orienting itself to the preservation of health through the prevention and maintenance of global well-being rather than through the treatment of the symptom or of the already overt disease, indicative of an imbalance that has already occurred, ancient Oriental medicine has always focused attention on the concept "tonic", meaning by this term a natural food that strengthens and balances the organism at the level of its metabolic and defense processes.

Even today, Reishi is used for the treatment of over 20 pathologies ranging from migraine, hypertension, arthritis, nephritis, diabetes, hypercoleseremia, allergies, important cardiovascular problems, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.

But where do all these beneficial properties of Ganoderma Lucidum come from?

These beneficial properties of Reishi derive from 150 bioactive substances that this fungus contains such as: ganoderici acids (triterpenes), amino acids, adenosine, sterols, lipids, alkaloids,
high molecular weight polysaccharides, vitamins, minerals more precisely: organic germanium, iron, calcium , phosphorus and vitamins C, B, D including pantothenic acid, essential for nerve function. Also in the Reishi mycelium and content:
- A high level of RNA that interrupts viral diseases inducing the production of interferon;- Oelic acid which inhibits the release of instamine; - LZ-8 protein, which has an immunomodulatory effect and does not interrupt the production of antibodies;

What are the main activities of Ganoderma Lucidum?

The main activities of this fungus are Adaptogenic activity: this word is used to define some substances capable of inducing the body to a state of increased non-specific resistance, counterbalancing the stressful signals, thus adapting to an exceptional effort. A substance to be adaptogenic must follow these characteristics: -

Show resistance to a non-habitual activity such as physical exertion - Be harmless and do not affect the normal functioning of the body, for example, side effects
Adenosine containing Ganodermaexplains why it is successfully used to decrease nervous tension, this substance releases the skeletal musculature has a sedative effect on the central nervous system and has an antagonistic action on the stimulating activity of caffeine.

Anti-inflammatory activity: The Reishi has been positively evaluated for its anti-inflammatory activity thanks to a component that has been isolated and identified as an analogue to hydrocortisone, which however does not possess the typical side effects of steroids and non-steroids anti-inflammatories. This anti-inflammatory activity is considered very important as the inflammation is involved in the development of serious pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease.

Thanks to the ability of the Reishi to act positively on the state of well-being of elderly individuals, the use of this fungus is seen in the perspective of mitigating these serious diseases typical of old age. Reishi is useful for increasing the vital energy in these subjects, the faculty of thought and preventing memory loss.

Pressure activity: The extract of Ganoderma Lucidum is considered an excellent pressure balancer, the antihypertensive activity is due to the 112 triterpenes identified with ACE inhibitory action. In particular the ganoderic acids (B, D, F, H, K, S and Y), the banderole A and B which are responsible for the hypotensive activity.

Antithrombotic activity: It has been recently discovered that the nucleosides containing adenosine and guanosine, contained in Reishi, prevent platelet aggregation from occurring within the coronary vessels and sanguine thus applying a great antithrombotic action.

Hypoglycemic activity: Reishi is considered effective in reducing blood glucose levels, after approximately only two months of treatment thanks to Ganoderano A, B and C, with an increase in insulin levels, stimulation of peripheral glucose utilization and stimulus of hepatic glucose metabolism.

Hepatoprotective activity : the extract of Ganoderma Lucidum is currently used for its hepatoprotective properties, as demonstrated by clinical studies on patients with hepatitis B, obtaining encouraging results, obtaining a significant reduction of transaminases and their normalization after only one month three months, recently also used in the case of necrotic hepatitis and associated with chemotherapy due to the hepatocellular damage of this practice.

Cardiovascular activity: Clinical studies on Ganoderma Lucidum have confirmed that the use of this fungus can dilate the coronary artery and increase circulation in cardiac capillaries thus increasing the amount of oxygen and energy reaching the heart. Reishi can reduce cholesterol levels by inhibiting platelet aggregation and softening the blood vessel, and it also inhibits the enteric absorption of cholesterol.

Immunostimulatory activity : An important action of the Reishi has also been found at the cellular level, as it can have two opposite effects on the same type of cells, as shown on lymphocyte cells that are in a state of normal or little activity at the administration of the extract of the fungus they were activated, and on the contrary, on cells that were in a state of overproduction and overactivity, they were regulated and attenuated in the same way to the administration of the Ganoderma extract. Thus Ganoderma Lucidum can either enhance the body's defence mechanism but at the same time reduce the exaggerated immune response in the case of immune system hyperactivity.

As demonstrated in a hospital study of 48 patients with advanced-stage carcinomas to which Reishi extracts were administered for 30 days, the results showed that after this period there was an increase in the immune response evidenced by the growth of T lymphocytes and a decrease in the CD8 count. Patients also experienced a more rapid recovery to surgery and fewer side effects due to chemotherapy.

The antiviral efficacy of Reishi against  - Herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2

- Influenza virus A;
-Various strains of viral vesicular stomatitis;

Ganoderma Lucidum :

In these scientific works, antiviral efficacy of Ganoderma Lucidum against HIV due to the antitranscriptase action of the terpenes contained in the fungus has also been highlighted, which also have great antioxidant capacities that protect the cellular structures from damage related to oxidative stress.

The superiority of the Reishi extract of Ganoderma Lucidum compared to any other plant extract is clearly superior as confirmed by the research of the "Moscow Cardiovascular Research Institute".
The efficacy of Reishi is due precisely to the synergy of its constituents which, taken individually, would not be able to give the benefits that these principles bring together in the Ganoderma Lucidum.
